Start with the provider directory for your Medicaid managed-care plan, listed on your member card or the plan’s website, or use your state Medicaid agency’s find-a-provider tool. Always call the office to confirm they still take your specific plan and are accepting new patients, since directories are not always current. Federally Qualified Health Centers and dental schools are reliable lower-cost options too.

Where adult dental is covered, typical benefits include exams, X-rays, cleanings, fillings, extractions, and emergency care for pain or infection. More extensive work such as crowns, dentures, root canals, and periodontal treatment varies by state and often needs prior approval. For children and teens under 21, all medically necessary dental care is covered.

Extractions are commonly covered, especially when a tooth is damaged, infected, or causing pain. Dentures are covered in many but not all states and usually require prior authorization plus a waiting period between replacements. Confirm the details with your plan before starting treatment.
